Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) is the ability to send voice over a data network.

It allows the use of one network for both voice and data traffic. VOIP is achieved by converting voice calls into packets of data that can be transmitted over an IP data network. VOIP allows companies to have a single network for both calls and data that can lead to a reduction in the costs associated with maintaining the network infrastructure, management and line rental costs.

The IP technology allows the telephone system to be more flexible, offer a wider range of functions and to often be a more cost effective solution. VOIP is ideally suited for companies who are relocating, have multiple sites or have home workers, although it can be the best solution in many circumstances. Benefits of VOIP include;
